Last week we went to see
the Living Planet Aquarium’s
new exhibit “animal superheroes.” The aquarium is in Sandy, so if you live in Utah County it’s a little bit of a drive but it is well worth it.
I hadn’t been to the aquarium for a few years, and I was surprised at how much it has changed! They had a ton to look at – and it was all very interesting. We started by looking at some fish that are native to Utah. Notice how Lily has her pointing finger ready to show us everything she sees.
My parents and sister came with us and were entertained as well. This is a fun place to go even if you don’t have kids with you!
This place is perfect for those with short attention spans. There are different rooms to go into, and they have different ways of showing you animals. They also had a few different places for kids to play on which was awesome. I was impressed that they had not just 1 play place, but a few that were all different.
Their shark tank was a lot of fun to look at. Lily couldn’t get enough of the huge sea turtle swimming past us over and over.
There is also a place where they let you pet the sting rays.
Our favorite part was the penguin exhibit. I hadn’t seen it before, but they had a huge tank where you could watch the penguins in and out of the water. We stayed there for a while watching them jump in, swim around quickly, and hop back out to waddle around.
The animal superheroes exhibit was awesome – but a little bit crowded since it was opening day so I didn’t get any good pictures. They describe the animals that have awesome abilities…it’s really interesting to see them all grouped together like that. Their “super powers” included things like spitting, crunching, and camouflage.
Things to know before you go:
This is definitely a stroller-friendly place but if your kids are like mine, they won’t want to stay in their stroller for a second. There are a lot of hands-on activities, and they did a really good job at setting up everything so it is accessible to even the tiniest viewers.
A 1 day pass is $9 for an adult. However, a YEAR LONG pass is just $23 for an adult. I ended up going and getting a year long pass because I loved it so much. Now I can go as much as I want (I’m thinking this will be a great indoor activity when it’s cold or rainy out) and I don’t have to feel obligated to stay and see everything every time, although Lily will probably still want to.
There are activities you can pay extra to do if you want. Most of these activities you need reservations for, so plan ahead if you are interested. Want to feed the stingrays or see the penguins up close? You can find more information on these options
