We took Lily to the Tracy Aviary last week and loved it! To be honest, I had never even heard of the Tracy Aviary until just recently. I’m glad we went because we had a lot of fun!
We showed up in the afternoon on a Thursday and there was hardly anyone there at all. I loved going in the spring time because there were a ton of baby birds to look at.
The aviary is set up like a small zoo with lots of exhibits of different types of birds. Some birds are in cages or enclosures, some are just behind fences, and some are out in the open walking around! Lily loved getting close to the animals and watching them move.
See the peacock just walking around where we were?
We went to their 3:00 bird show and were the only ones there! The bird expert doing the show still did a private showing just for us which was awesome! The stage was very pretty and well kept – see all the flowers? We loved it.
My husband got to feed an emu as we learned all about it. It was very interesting and I loved being able to ask questions and get an up close encounter with some of the birds.
We would learn what each bird eats and why, and how the shape of their feathers affect their ability to fly. It honestly was all very interesting. Since our bird show was being catered just to us, it was pretty informal which I loved. It allowed us to interact with the trainer and birds.
They have a dispenser by the flamingos with bird food that you can feed the water birds only. There were actually a handful of exhibits you could use this feed at. Make sure to bring quarters so you and your kids can do this!
There was a bunch of construction going on in the aviary but according to the keeper who did our bird show, everything should be finished really soon. At that time they will open their brand new owl forest exhibit.
This aviary is stroller friendly but you can also rent wagons there for $3.
